At the same time, there are feelings of excitement and wonder as I look forward to going back to somewhere God has placed on my heart. Most of all, I’m looking forward to seeing God at work among the Nigerian people through the various ministries I will be involved in, and I trust that He will use me for His glory.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Katie Morrison. I grew up in East Belfast and since childhood I have been involved in the fellowship at Mountpottinger Baptist Church. My parents worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo for a period during my childhood and looking back now, I can see how God was beginning to give me a passion and heart for the people of Africa even at that young age.
Having always had a passion for working alongside children, I completed a postgraduate qualification in primary teaching at Liverpool Hope University in 2011. I have served on a number of Mission Africa summer teams in Nigeria as well as 15 months as a short termer in Ogugu. Over the past number of years, as a result of various experiences and opportunities to learn within the Mission Africa home office and within Nigeria, it was becoming clear that God was continuing to give me a heart for the people and work within Nigeria.
Before serving further in Nigeria, in September 2016, I began a Higher Education Certificate in Theology at the Belfast Bible College. This was a very beneficial time that helped me to further grow personally and spiritually in my faith and gain further knowledge and understanding of the Bible.
From September, I will be serving full time as Short Term Coordinator within Nigeria. My primary role will be overseeing Mission Africa teams and short term workers coming into Nigeria. This will involve travelling to various areas within Nigeria in which our workers are based and providing care and support for them. It will also involve liaising with the Nigerian staff in each area to continue to build stronger relationships with Mission Africa. I will also be able to participate in a further compassionate ministry, working with children and young people within the community of Holley Memorial Hospital, Ochadamu.
I trust that I can be an encouragement to those coming to serve in Nigeria and also the Nigerian church as we partner together in reaching out to the various communities in sharing the Gospel and showing the love of Christ in practical ways.
As I look back over the past number of years, I have been able to see God’s hand using each experience and challenge to continually mould and shape my life. God has given each of us a role in His Kingdom, as we are each called to be a light wherever God has planted us. My part just so happens to be within Nigeria at this time and I would appreciate your prayers as I take up this role.
